Workforce: Audi AG will invest roughly $4 billion to build its first U.S

Audi AG commits approximately $4 billion to construct its first U.S. manufacturing plant in Peach County, Georgia. This historic expansion targets the start of commercial production in 2031. The investment marks the first foreign premium brand greenfield U.S. assembly plant in years, signaling a major shift in premium vehicle production geography. Audi described the United States as the world's second-largest premium market. Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, stated the U.S. is one of the world's most important premium markets and that the brand has not yet realized its full potential there. The move is part of Audi’s long-term strategy for profitable growth.

Strategic site selection and scale

The plant will be located at the Middle Georgia Mega Site, marketed by the Mid-Georgia Gateway Joint Development Authority. This 1,100-acre site near Macon was purchased in June 2022 in a partnership between the State of Georgia and the Development Authority of Peach County. It sits roughly 150 miles southeast of Atlanta. The location was chosen for its logistics infrastructure and skilled workforce. Annual production capacity is targeted at 200,000 vehicles once the facility is fully established.

Production timeline and product focus

Construction of the plant is slated to begin in 2027. Full vehicle production is expected to commence in the early 2030s, with commercial production specifically slated for 2031. The facility will focus on producing premium sport utility vehicles tailored to North American customers. This aligns with broader industry trends and demand. The first U.S.-built Audi vehicles will be produced in the early 2030s.

Workforce and operational design

The facility will create around 4,500 new jobs in middle Georgia. A custom curriculum and a dedicated training center will prepare workers for assembly, maintenance, and advanced manufacturing roles. Georgia Quick Start will partner with local Technical College System of Georgia campuses for this workforce development. Gerd Walker, Member of the Board of Management for Production and Logistics, emphasized building highly efficient and flexible production processes. The plant will be designed around Audi’s future manufacturing requirements, focusing on efficiency, flexibility, and responsiveness to customer needs.

North America is targeted to become a third major pillar of Audi’s global production network, alongside Europe and China. Germany and Europe will remain the industrial backbone of Audi, with its current engineering expertise and technological capabilities. Commercial production is slated to commence at the Peach County facility in 2031, marking Audi's entry into U.S. vehicle assembly.
