Reframe Systems, a robotics company using physical AI for home construction, announced it has raised $40 million. The funding will be used to scale its network of automated microfactories across North America to tackle the U.S. shortage of 4.5 million homes.
According to the company, the housing crisis stems from the construction industry's fragmented nature. Most houses are built by hand, involving 25 or more subcontractors drawing on a shrinking pool of skilled labor. Reframe's model involves building a network of microfactories near communities in need, allowing production to adapt to local zoning, climate, and architectural styles.
The Microfactory Strategy
Reframe plans to expand production capacity by opening a new microfactory, called FAB1, in Billerica, Massachusetts. Operations are scheduled to begin on October 5. The company claims it will achieve full factory readiness just 70 days after receiving the keys. The factory is designed to use less than $5 million in equipment.

To date, Reframe has completed 10 homes, ranging from accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to triple-decker apartments. Eight of these are already occupied. Over the next year, the company plans to deliver 114 more units.
Current Projects and Impact
Current projects include finishing 12 units at Adams Circle in Devens, Massachusetts. A five-story apartment building in Roxbury and a development in Thornton, New Hampshire, are next in the production pipeline. In Altadena, California, the company is completing a wildfire-resilient bungalow and an ADU for a family rebuilding after fires.
Funding and Future Goals
The $40 million funding round was led by Energy Impact Partners (EIP). Other investors included Counterpart Ventures, E12 Ventures, Global Brain, Thin Line Capital, Up Partners, and the LACI Impact Fund. Existing investors Eclipse, VoLo Earth, Cubit Capital, RA Capital Management (Planetary Health), MassMutual Catalyst, and Nor'easter also participated.
The new capital will help accelerate home delivery in New England and fund the deployment of additional microfactory capacity across North America. The goal is to bring robotics-enabled homebuilding to communities with the greatest need. Company co-founder and CEO Vikas Enti stated that developers are demanding faster, energy-efficient, climate-resilient homes. He added that every home delivered makes the next one faster and cheaper because the company's software, robotics, and network learn from each deployment. This demand is reportedly why the company is now targeting one million homes by 2040, five years ahead of its initial schedule.
Reframe Systems was founded in 2022 by former Amazon Robotics leaders Vikas Enti, Felipe Polido, and Aaron Small. At Amazon, the trio helped scale automation systems and deploy more than 500,000 robots across the company's global fulfillment network.
